Blind As Love

Diya and her friend Pips are on their way to the opening of an art exhibition and Pips plans to introduce her to her friend Ash, but Diya receives a call from her boss telling her to take photos or a band instead. Frustrated at not being asked to cover real news stories, she argues but gives in to his demands. The band are called The Nightshades and the crowd all have oversized sunglasses on, but one man stands out as he is not wearing any. They begin to talk and are immediately struck by each other’s differences. From the bathroom she calls Pips, who is with Ash at the gallery. Through the window she hears noises and spies an attack in the alley behind the club which she photographs. She is shocked to see the man she just met is involved. Feeling sick, she meets a woman in the bathroom who she thinks will help her escape, but through a misunderstanding leaves her alone with him. Pretending nothing has happened he leaves the club with her. Deciding to follow up the story she agrees to walk home with him in order to find his address and then inform the police. She tries to leave when they arrive, but he persuades her to go inside through his young daughter. He introduces Angel and asks Diya to photograph her as she sings. Diya is overcome during her song and can’t take any pictures. Jason then goes to get drinks and Diya calls the police, but he returns and tries to seduce Diya. He attends to Angel who is choking and Diya sees her chance to escape. She runs from the flat but he pursuesd her over a railway bridge. She trips, but the police arrive on the other side. Suspecting what she has witnessed, Jason threatens her to throw away the camera, but she hurls it towards the police officer and he attacks her with acid and makes his escape. Some time later, having lost her vision, Diya finds the truth and beauty she has been seeking with a guide dog.

The film premiered at the Madrid International Film Festival in July 2018 winning best editing of a short film, and had it’s US premiere at the Golden Door International Film Festival in Jersey City in September 2018. With over 10 festival selections worldwide it also won an award of Distinction in Canada Shorts 2018 and best editing of a short film at the London International Filmmaker Festival 2019.
